Determine Your Needs and Your Ferret’s Needs before Buying a Ferret Cage

Ferrets make wonderful pets and can provide years of love and pleasure to their owners. They do, however, require special care if they are to remain healthy and full of energy. Caring for a pet ferret is a lot different than caring for a dog or cat. For example, your dog or cat doesn’t have a lifelong need to steal and hide items like your car keys.

Ferrets are curious and bold little animals. Sometimes that sense of adventure causes them to get into trouble and they have a tendency to be a little destructive. Because of these traits, it is not advisable to leave a ferret unsupervised for even the shortest amount of time. Ferrets can simply get into too much trouble when left to their own devices. They can get stuck exploring where they shouldn’t be exploring, hurt by biting into an item not meant to be chewed, or poisoned from eating something toxic. As you can see it is wise to have a spot where your ferrets can stay when you don’t have time to monitor their activities; cages designed for ferrets are the perfect solution.

Ferret cages are an absolute must have if you plan on keeping these furry mammals as pets. There are a good number of different styles and sizes available on the market today so you’ll want to determine what your needs are in regards to how active your ferret is and how much room you have to set a cage up. For example, you may want to buy the biggest ferret cage there is but if you live in a small apartment, there probably isn’t enough room for your furniture and the cage. Average cages tend to be around 18″ x 18″ x 30″ in size and it is plenty of room for your ferret to run, sleep and play without feeling confined.

What a ferret lacks in size, it surely makes up for in personality. You will undoubtedly love your new pet. With lots of affection and the proper care, your ferret will make a wonderful pet for many, many years.
